What kinds of lubricants should i be using on my road bike? |
between dry lubes, wet lubes and grease i'm totally confused. what goes on what and why? if it helps, i live in northeast ohio. so the climate can get pretty wet. I know more about mountain bikes, but you should be using lubes on your chain, grease would go on your bottom bracket, the grease points on your hubs, the ball bearings in your headset, if you have clipless pedals i know they need to be greased somewhere. Your best and safest bet is to go to your local bike shop and ask the guys there. if its a good shop they'll be more htan happy to help. Not seeing the bike i cant tell you for sure where you need to be putting what. Good luck! KY jelly You should use wet lubes for wet/cold conditions and dry lube for dry/hot conditions. I like Road Rage by Pedros. There are also wax based lubes that is supposed to repeal dirt better and keep the chain cleaner so one doesn't have to clean their chain as often. For greasing I usually take my bike into the dealer for a performance overhaul which consists of: All Components Removed, Cleaned, Inspected, Lubricated, and Reinstalled Fresh Grease and Bearings Installed Wheels Trued and Tensioned All Components Precision Adjusted I do this once a year pedros extra dry witch has Teflon in it so not much dust and dirt stick, and pedros ice wax witch doesn't let water get on it the ice wax is good for winter and the extra dry is good for the summer days |
