Why can't I get the seat bolt on my road bike tight enough? |
i was messing with the seat height the other day, tried to re-tighten the seat bolt but it wouldn't / won't hold the seat firm in place. the saddle keeps dropping all the way back down into the seat post. i've actually never diddled with my seat height before and now i know why - for some reason this really has me baffled. the manual has been of little help. am i just an idiot? This is a common problem! Try the following: 1 Use emery paper to slightly roughen the inside of the seat tube of the bike frame, be careful not to remove paint from the top of the frame or the outside. 2 Surprisingly enough, lubricate the seat tube with white grease. 3 Check that the little cutout at the back of the seat tube is not closed up - if so your seat post is too small for your frame tube! Now try again. If no luck: 3 Go to your bike shop and buy a shim of the correct diameter for your frame (they'll have a range in stock - either take your bike or your seat post to enable the shop to select the right shim). 4 Change the bolt for a lever type - this tightens much more effectively (and allows you to instantly adjust or remove the saddle without tools). Good luck! could be stripped read this http://www.sheldonbrown.com/saddles.html... |
