Why do Bicycleists ride on the road, when there is a bike pate running parallel to the road? |
and a foot path for walking and jogging parrallel to that? I take a two lane road home in Mpls along the Mississippi, and the speed limit is 25 mph, but of the time we can't do the speed limit because a bicyclist is on the road keeping up traffic, even when the BIKE lane is open. Does anyone have a clue as to why they are so discourtious? Bike paths are known to avid cyclists as "recreation only" use. People take their families on these trails to bike, run, and walk. For bikers needing to train this is a major hazard. Roads are a lot more open an allow for faster speeds. yeah, you're bike lane could be full of debris, potholes, or anything else that's detrimental to a road bike and it's rider. cuz they think their cool and they have a license that allows them too.....haven't you seen the signs that have a motorcycle on them and say "Share the Road"? Cuz they dont care bout their lives....plus I've noticed wehn the city cleans the street in them trucks all trash and stuff is usually pushed into the bike lane I would tend to agree with the answer that potholes, debris and disrepair would be a cause of some of it. Bikers need to be more proactive and contact their local city or highway department if it starts to get into disrepair in order to get it fixed for all concerned. A bike path is great AS LONG as the governing agency takes care of it. Sadly, many put one in and then ignore the condition of it, or bother to keep up the maintenance of it.....and some just don't have the budget to keep it up anymore. I've been in some areas where signs DIRECT bicyclists that they MUST stay on the path or could get a citation. Safety issue there due to narrow streets. I don't know why you would think it's reasonable to ask that to a community of online cyclists because you saw saw 3 or 4 guys do it from where you live. The bikes have the sames rules and rights as the cars. On the bike lanes in my town people let little kids ride. I'd rather ride with the cars sometimes. At least they have an idea about staying in one lane and not zig zagging back and forth across the trail like the kids. |
