What is the best road or touring bike frame size for me - I'm 5 feet 7 inches tall, 140 lbs? |
I'm looking for a used bike for my 10 mile daily commute and wondering what the best frame size is for my height and weight - 5/7, 140 lbs. thanks! Depending on your inseam, you'll probably be best fit on a 52 to 54 cm frame, but certainly no taller. I would advise the 52, since you can compensate for the leg and arm reach with to seatpost and stem length. If you have an abnormally short torso or arms and mount up a 54, you might not be able to get a stem short enough. Go to a bike shop that offers free fitting with a bike sale. go for something around 56cm, maybe a little smaller. the best way to size yourself is to go to a shop and act like you want to buy a bike. try out a few sizes and styles, talk to the mechanic, then say you like a particular bike and say you have to save more money. now you know exactly what size you should get. your probably around 54-55cm height is not all that matters though, inseam:torso is also important. I would go to a shop and get a professional bike fit. Good road shops will provide this service for free if you purchase a bike, but might charge about $30-40 if you don't. It is well worth it. I suspect that you will be around a 52 or 53cm frame, but a lot depends on leg length, arm length, etc. If you want to try this for free, check out the website for competitive cyclist. They have a great online tool. www.competitivecyclist.com |
