Hi guys my brother bought a road racin bike an its a large frame he is only 5 foot 7 inch is it 2 big? While it's hard to tell from just knowing that his bike is a 'large', I would still have to say yes, the bike is too big. I'm 6' 1'' (with stubby legs - 33'') and I ride a large, 19'', 58cm bike frame. It really depends more on his inseam than his height. To get a better guage of how his bike fits look at the seat height in relation to the handlebars. The seat should be at least as high as the level of, or better yet for a racer higher than, the bars. If it's not then the frame is probably a little big. Source(s): Used to work in a bike shop. If he can ride it stable, he's fine.. By large do you mean a 19" or biggar if its a 19" it probabaly ok I'm not sure how they measure you up for these things to be honest, but my frame is extra small and I'm 5ft 2 and I can only put my toes, and not my feet, down when not riding and I was measured for mine. A good (racing) bike shop will be able to help you better. It's all about the riding position at the end if the day. Also they can alter the seat position and the handlebars so that you achieve the best Q-angle (or something...whatever that is). I bought my racing bike about 6 months ago and I love it but it has taken a bit of adjustment to get things right. A lot of bike shops will tell you anything, but if you find a good one (ie. the owners are or used to be racers or triathletes) then you can get all the help you need. You will need to get the bike serviced yearly (like a car) so is best to find one now and drill them for info etc. Good luck and happy racing x Most companies supply frames in small, medium and large these days and not in the older style inches. This cuts down on the number of different sizes they have to manufacture and is made posiible by the newer compact frames. If this is the type of frame your brother has bought and he is only 5ft 7inch then its far to large. Im 5ft 8inch and have a 30inch inside leg and i ride a shop fitted small compact frame. I think the large is for people in the region of 6ft4inches approx! This means that when he rides it the center of gravity is wrong and the bike will be difficult to handle possibly making it dangerous. Can you give us some more specific information about what you mean by "large"? Every company has different sizes that they call small, med., and large. Take Trek for example; their smallest bike is about 15", which could be considered extra small or small, next is 17.5", which is appropriate for someone 5'6" to 5'9", and jumping to large, we have 22.5", which would be way huge for someone your brother's height. That said, what is the actual size of the frame, either in centimeters or inches? Can he stand over the crossbar with an inch to spare? Can he reach the handlebars and keep a slight bend in his elbows? Any additional info you can provide will allow us to give you better advice. |
