Why would someone steal a kid's bike just to throw it in a ditch 3 miles down the road?

My daughter's bike was missing yesterday morning from the yard (Yes, she left it out AGAIN) and we found it today three miles down the road in a ditch and both tires were flat.. but they're not punctured because my husband aired them up and they're just fine.

maybe it was used in a bank robbery.

Maybe they got scared and tried to get rid of the bike
