Insuring off road bikes?

has anyone managed to get insurance cover for off road bikes...i need to insure my sons honda crf 100 off road bike

It depends on your states insurance laws and regulations, and to a large extent how your agent interprets them.

Where I live, the rules state that in order for a motor vehicle to be insurable it must have a title. Off road bikes and ATV's are delivered with an MSO or MCO (Manufacturers Statement/Certificate of Origin), and the vast majority state that the machine is for off road use only. I have yet to be able to get any agent to even give me trailer/towing, fire and theft coverage in the last 15 years.

It also goes further than that, and gets absolutely crazy. If the bikes are in my basement workshop and the house burns or they are stolen I'm still not covered under home owners insurance for the same reason. They are motor vehicles. The exception, depending upon insurance company, is if I had a goon buggy...err ATV and had a picture of it doing something related to keeping up the house (like pulling a cart full of mulch for example), then it would be covered because it is used to maintain the property.

Crazy. Absolutely crazy.

Check with your insurance provider. Next time your shopping for insurance include the bike in the quote and see where it goes from there. For me, doing that has been an eye opening experience.
depends on insurance company, try geico and progressive i just insured my enduro dirtbike (dr250). call and tell them the situation and what you are wanting. they can help or send you in the right direction. plus if the bike is brand new from a dealership, ask them for any advice.
Depends on where you are, (in Australia) I got insurance for my ATV and this includes in transit (going to and from in the trailer).
