I want to get into road cycling. What size bike should I get if I am a 5'10" male with a 30-31 ' inseam Get the correct size. Go to a good bike shop in your area. A proper fitting for a bike should take a fair amount of time and should include such considerations as your physical ability, age, flexibility, and goals. Overhead on bicycles is very low, so don't expect any great deals by going to a place that doesn't provide good service. More importantly, a bike that isn't right for you will sit in the garage and rust. Size of frame and crank length, seat height, stem length, handlebar width, type of saddle, all make a HUGE difference in perfrmance and comfort. The slightest thing out of balance can make for painful riding and/or injury. Sounds like 54 to 56 will work for you, but get thee to your local bike shop and get fitted. It is always worth the extra time and money. I'm 6'2 with a 43-inch inseam and I'm riding a 61-cm Lemond. I'd suggest you try a number of different brands, and try anything between 56 and 59. A lot of the manufacturers measure differently, and by trying different sizes and different brands, you'll get a better idea of which size will fit you best. Aim for about an inch of standover clearance on bikes with a fairly flat top tube, two inches or so for bike with more slope to the top tube. From there, you can make adjustments to the seatpost and stem to zero your position in just right. Better bike shops, by the way, will help get you in the general ballpark for a test ride, and will fit it perfectly when you buy. |
