Ayone know about Motobecane or Mercier road bikes? |
Any know if they make good quality road bikes? They both used to be well-known French brands with Motobecane more in line with Peugeot and Schwinn and Mercier an upmarket, maybe even high end brand. Both names were bought by a Chinese manufacturing concern and sell bikes that offer high content for the money. They should be good bikes but they don't make buyers skip a heartbeat in excitement. Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/mercier_cyc... If the original Mercier did become MBK, the French MBK bikes are top notch and no relationship to today's Chinese Mercier. Motobecane frames are made by Fuji. I would take a Motobecane over a Mercier anyday. They are decent frames. That's pretty funny. Fuji doesn't make any of their own frames, but it is correct that Motobecane and Fuji frames are now made in the same factory. Regarding Mercier, I haven't seen those around for a looooong time. The best thing to do is to forget brand names and compare components. Many bike companies have their own "brand" of parts, especially when it comes to cranksets and hubs. Be careful about this because it is really difficult to determine the level of quality. Once you have decided on the components best suited for your type of riding then go ahead and make the plunge. By the way, if you are planning to spend over $2000 on a bike I would recommend contacting Bob Jackson Cycles in Leeds England. Their U.S. agent is World Class Cycles in New York. 26 years in the industry Motobecane bikes are now called MBK. I own one, and are superior to any other brand.... and you can still compare a $2000 mbk with a $5000 of any other brand. I have never seen Mercier bikes around Mexico or texas... www.mbk-cycles.com |
