If I ride a bike, do I ride on the road along with the cars or on the side walk? |
I really don't know... road. but be careful of all those idiots who might get too close- the turbulence form the wheels could make you fall off. in most states it's illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalks, especially those locales that actually have Bike Lanes. Ride on the road, the cars have to yield to you! It depends on local ordinances. Believe it or not, according to law, bikes have to follow the same rules as cars. You are supposed to ride on the street with the flow of traffic, not against. You are also required to stop at red lights, signal when turning, etc. on the road, sidewalk is for pedestrians only You should ride on the side of the road, in the designated bike lane. Riding your bike on the sidewalk is hazardous to pedestrians; riding IN the flow of cars is hazardous to you (since you cannot keep up with the speed of traffic, and drivers may not be able to see you slipping in and out of lanes). No matter what, wear a helmet - my friend is an ER doctor, and you do NOT want to hear the stories she tells of bike-car accidents, much less experience one. <shudder> You should check with your state's traffic division to be sure what they say. Go to your state's website and look up the information under vehicle information like the Department of Motor Vehicles often has this info. |
