Will cops give me trouble if I ride a dirt bike on the side of the road to an open field? If you are inside of the legal right of way they definitely will...been there. they can you have to push it or trailer it As long as you don't get on the road, don't take any chances, hope this helps. 36 years @ ford motor co repairman Depends on the city, it used to be legal to ride dirt bikes down railroad right of ways in LA but I don't think its that way anymore. Hi, depends on where you live. When i lived in NJ, cops harrassed you for everything. If you were riding on the side of the road in Jersey, you'd have your bike impounded. In NJ, you would need a plate, insurance and inspection to get away with it, but of course, you would still be searched for contraband, like that doobie in your pocket. But, here in Arkansas, were i live now, you could probably get away with it. Around here, you can load up your 4 wheeler with a case of cold beer on ice, a sidearm, and a doobie in your pocket and ride up to the truckstop to fill up on gas. Nobody pays attention. I live about 30 miles west of Little Rock. The closer to a big city the worse the cops get. In rural areas, it just dont matter..........unless of course your on a RM 500 2 stroke with knobbies blowing down the road at 100 mph;......with no helmet, that might piss off a cop with nothing better to do.......get a bike trailer if it's questionable. Your license is very valuble, you wont realize how valuble until you lose it.........Good Luck!!.......in 1982, i got nailed for "passing on the right", "attempting to elude police via motorcycle", "running a red light", "reckless driving" and "assulting a police officer" after i ran out of gas and hid in the woods. After a few hours in jail, i was harrassing the cops for interrupting my day of bar hopping..........they tried to get me for DWI, but by then i was sober. In the end i paid about $900 in fines, and lost my license for a year. NJ sucks!! Glad i moved here, i never looked back....... in the car business 20 years, antique car hobby 30 years........I lost alot of cops on bikes over the years, but i got caught once, in NJ, and paid dearly for it!! |
