What are some affordable road bikes? |
affordable meaning less than 400 try Wal- mart they have cheap Chinese slave labor bikes under 100 although this time of the year they sell out quick , try walmart.com and see if they are in stock or call your local store to see if they are. whatever you do, do NOT shop at Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc. go to your local bike shop and ask for entry level road bikes, although $ 400 is a bit low to start... you may have better luck with a price range that starts around $ 600. check out KHS, Specialized, and Giant. http://www.specialized.com if you don't find it new at the bike shop ask the people about used bikes you may be able to get a sweet deal on a used higher end but older bike. a lot of shops that don't take trade ins have a board for just that, say a customer wants to up grade but needs to sell his bike first where better to sell it then a bike shop.It works out for everyone. I keep an eye on our board and have seen some great deals and have pointed them out to customers and made a friend for life (actually 2 the seller is pretty happy to.) I'm a bike wrench Very appropriate advice by Uncle Neal---Dept. stores are TERRIBLE venues for low priced roadies! Go to EBAY ( www.ebay.com) Click 'Sporting Goods' ----you'll find "ROAD BIKES Complete....." under the CYCLING category. From there you'll find USED and brand new bikes of your preference. ( Ask the seller if you have ANY inquiries). Take your time in selecting and choose a great brand ( Pinarello,Felt, Specialized, Giant, etc.). Enjoy! Less than $400 brand new 99.9% of the time won't get you on a good ride. For that price look in eBay and craigslist.com ads and buy a used brand name bike. If you are able to demo a bike with a friend that has cycling back ground would help. Hopefully you can get a bike that has low miles,components that are not trashed and rims that spin true.
