I passed motorbike test at least 25yrs ago & intend to get back to road bikes again this yr. is my licence..? |
..still valid ? please help with this Q as i have been pinning my hopes on getting back to biking without any more tests. thanks Your licence is still valid unless it's expired, which is usually around the age of 70 or 75, I believe. Please be careful though! With no disrespect intended, bikes have changed a huge amount in 25 years. I let my Dad ride my 750 Suzuki a few years ago, he hadn't ridden in about 15 years. He took it around the block, and came back with a white face and shaking hands, and swore he'd never get on it again. Enjoy! You should have a expire date on your licence I think you csn pre 1980 something your bike license is ok check DVLA website If the endorsement shows on your license, then yes. Otherwise no. Pull it out of your wallet and look. As an experienced rider I will encourage you to take a MSF riding course. You will be surprised how much you have forgotten and how much you may have learned wrong. Ride Safe! As you passed your motor cycle test, providing you have kept your motor cycle licence up to date you should be OK. BUT if it is 25 years since you have ridden a motor cycle on the road I implore you to take some sort of refresher course. Bikes have changed a lot since then, they are quicker over all, with a much greater acceleration, a very different animal to what you will recall in addition to which you have probably slowed down in reaction time. If you are really going to do this, do it right and save you life! YES it is still valid I know it is a bit stupid,but I passed bike test in 1965,have not ridden since 1966,but I am legally licensed to ride anything. Please please get some proper up to date guidence/tuition/assistance and then ENJOY Good Luck Check you licence! A couple of my older mates who passed in the early 70's (when you just had to ride around the block and stop!) have had their classification un-listed when they have renewed their licence due to an address change! Very strange! They only noticed that the catagory was not "ticked" when (like you) they wanted to take it up again. Hope that you are still legal - get a refresher and have fun! |
