What should I look for when buying a New Bike? |
I need a new bike. I want something quality, but not super expensive. I don't plan on doing anything hardcore, just something I can ride on all resonable terain. I want a good middle of the road MTN bike, help? shop around.it seems like you have already determined where you plan on riding.there are basically three types.road, mountain bike, and a cross called a hybrid.that later seems like the one you are looking for.regardless of which you decide ,some things you NEED!quick release wheels for changing flats w/ out tools, proper fit,the weight of the bike [heavy means more work]and lastly some sort of warranty.most cycling shops will offer free lifetime tune ups and maintenance. Source(s): always where a helmet! check out Trek, Specialized, KHS, and Giant look for a MTB in the 400 to 600 dollar price range you will probably be looking for a bike with front suspension only, the full suspension bikes are usually much more expensive http://www.specialized.com Go with TREK price is good. Just make sure you get the right size. Very important Many bike brands make wide range of models from cheap to expensive. Example: Mongoose, you can buy at at Walmart for $89 or you can buy titanium frame model in a shop for $3500. There are some brands where you can't go wrong, but it will cost you: Klein, Litespeed, Moots etc. Good middle of the road models are made by Gary Fisher, Specialized, Giant, Marin etc. I suggest going for the lightest bike your money can buy. You should be able to pick up a 25 pound hardtail for around $500 new. Anything that's around 20 lbs. will be in the thousands (but ride like a dream!). Riding and upgrading bikes for the last 10 years. |
