Is this good oil for my bike engine? |
i asked a question earlier and got a few responses. My yamaha xj600n road style bike wants an oil filter change. i bought some MOTUL 5100 ester 10W40 4T is this ok? i do have a carburettor on my bike and i use my bike for 2 up sunday crusing. it's 4 stroke too! 5100 is a fully synth oil which is a much better spec than you really need. It won't do no harm as long as you don't leave the motor idling for long periods. Any API SG or above rated oil will be fine in the XJ. Im sure that the oil would be fine. But im sure you would be more safe going to any store to do with mechanics, and just ask them what you asked me. This oil will not harm your engine, but it is a rather high spec synthetic oil for racing engines. If you are going to use this oil, make sure you flush out all of the old (different) oil. A much cheaper oil would suit you better. I use real oil in my diversion. ive only ever really dealt with the old 2stroke off road bikes, had little experience with modern road bikes, the oil sounds ok for a 4stroke but if you are not sure ring a local dealer and ask,a phone call is a hell of a lot cheaper than a re build i do know that much mate , Yes, it will be absolutely fine running your xj on this oil. Its a much higher spec oil than you need but won't do any harm at all. just make sure you dont buy car oil with "energy saving additive" if you have a wet clutch cause the less friction oil will make the clutch slip Splendid. Your bike will love you for it. What does your carburetor have to do with it? |
