What's the best under $ 300.00 roads only bike for a 6'2 " 250 lb man? |
What's the best under $ 300.00 roads only bike for a 6'2 " 250 lb man? I would look for a used or past year model bike to get the best value. ANYTHING under $300 new is not going to be as efficient and fun bike to ride as something that something that used to cost $500 or more....even if that bike is 5 years old. My 10 year old Breezer Storm will ride rings around any $300 bike today. Even at a $500 price range you are probably going to end up with a hybrid, not a drop bar road bike. Decent drop bar road bikes start at 700. Good luck. Try shops that sell used bikes before going on the internet. A shop guy can tell if a bike really fits you. Bikes are not one size fits all as WalMart seems to think. Source(s): in the bike industry for 13 years I am a very similar sized rider as you are. I have a Motobecane Super Mirage. I have been as high as 270# on this bike. It is a steel entry level road bike with Shimano Sora components (8 speed w/triple chain ring in front). you would need either the 59 or 62cm frame size I have a 62 cm. I have had this bike for 3 years and put about 4000 miles on it with no major problems. I got mine through ebay. The seller was sprtymama on line store so you should be able to find it. Her selling price is 297.00 range plus $40 shipping. You can also find this bike at www.bikesdirect.com (it is $395.99 there but no shipping charge). Bikes Direct also has a Windsor entry level for $299.95. This is an Aluminum bike so it would be a little lighter. Hope this helps. I agree that some of the other responders comments about "cheap" bikes. I also agree you should probably visit a shop and get a fitting to know truly what size frame you need. However, I do think you can find a respectable road bike for under $300. The list price on my bike from Motobecane USA web site is $650 so it is not a cheap setup. www.motobecaneusa.com Try bikesdirect.com, e-bay, or check out last year's models at an LBS (local bike shop). Even better, buy an older used model. |
