What is a good bike for recreational use on roads and light trails?

I currently have a 14 year old Raleigh M30, but it's a little small and worn. Looking for something a little more comfortable, that I can take for short rides on city streets and some easy trails. I'm not a competitor, and I want the most comfortable bike that is still efficient and sturdy.

Trust me on this. The best hybrid for the money is the Giant Cypress. Its sturdy, light and quite comfortable. Plus it has some great components. You can get last years model for about $300 and I promise you that you won't be dissapointed. Your best bet would be to just go to your local bike shop and test drive a few makes and models. Have them fit you properly and make sure you ask alot of questions. Good Luck and Happy Cycling!
A buddy of mine was using an mtb to start his riding he's now gone to a Bianchi Hybrid and is having the time of his life. Yeah, he paid a little for it, but then it's a Bianchi you can't go wrong. He chose this one because it was lite and sturdy and comes from a bike manufacturer with eons of experience.
Bike club friends!
You want a hybrid with suspension in the seat post only ie. a half way house between a road bike/racer and a mountain bike. Sturdy enough for light trails and nasty potholes but without the weight of suspension.

I have a Marin Larkspur that I love and has given me hours of joyous riding. Would highly recommend Marin as a brand.
