I want to buy a Harley, I'm looking at a 05 Road King and also a 04 Low rider? |
I'm a 5'10" 165lb woman. I'm newly licensed, have been riding dirt bikes since I was a kid. I really like the look of the Road King with the big fenders but unsure if the bike is too heavy for me. I enjoyed the test drive on the Low Rider. Unsure which is the best bike for me right now. Any opinions would be greatly appriciated I have both; my RK is an '06 with injection; the Low Rider is an '05 with Carb. Both are stock except for opening up the breathing at both ends. In some ways, the Road King is easier to ride than the Lowrider, and vice versa. The King is actually easier to pick up if you happen to drop it at a light or something; the crashbars act as a fulcrum and also they give you handles to pick it up by. Squat, grab the tops of the crash bars, put your chest into the seat and lift with your legs. Unless you put them on, the Lowrider doesn't have them. As to your choice, you have to make that for yourself. Test the King and try to test the Lowrider again and make your own decision...if you can! 5'10" at 165? Hope I see you in the wind! If this is your first road bike, I would start with the Lowrider. Lower seat height, better handling, lower weight (easier to pick up by yourself if you drop it). The Road King has the advantage of being more comfortable on long distance rides and also has saddlebags stock. Both have the same size motor, but not sure if they are both fuel injected or if the Dyna has a carb. That's really a matter of opinion and your opinion is the only one that matters here. You are talking about two totally different rides. As far as weight is concerned the Road King is almost 100 lbs heavier than the Low Rider and the seat height is about 1 1/2 inches higher. But you are 5 10 you shouldn't have a problem. It all comes down to what kind of riding you want to do and how comfortable you want to be. The King will be more comfortable and convenient for touring and you can still cruise the night spots on it. And you'll look cool as heck on it too. It looks good going anywhere. You can do the same thing on the Low Rider but it won't be quite as plush or as convenient although you can get accessories to fit your purpose. I've never ridden a Road King but I know I'd like it but I always end up on some dirt back roads where ever I go so I ride a Sportster but it's not great for long distance touring. But one day when I think I've slowed down enough I'll get a Road King. Have you test ridden a Road King? My sister wanted a Fat Boy so bad she could taste it. By the way she's 5' 6" and 135. I tried to talk her into buying the Road King but hse followed her heart and bought the Fat Boy. Then she rode to York, PA. and test rode a King. When she came back she said "Jack, I should have bought a Road King. Don't go by looks because they are both cool looking bikes. Rent a Road King for a day then decide. Good Luck If you know how to ride, the weight of the bike won't matter. You're legs are long enough to support it at a stop. Backing up could be hard, but with your height you should be fine. It's an easy bike to handle. Go to a dealership and sit on some and feel it out. You can handle it, get your dream bike and I'll see you on the road. I'll get flamed for this but.....It depends on how old you are. The Dyna is a cool looking day tripper style bike, plus with the addition of some well placed T-Bag type of bag, it will travel rather well too. I really like the Road Kings, but to put it harshly, they aren't as cool as a "naked" bike. Personally if I were to own another bike other than my Wide Glide. It would be a Street Glide. They are already lowered from the factory, a chopped wind shield, locking hard bags, etc., etc., .But, it's your money, spend it on your favorite bike. No matter what if you buy a Harley you'll get a cool bike ! get a real bike buy a Victory. you'll be happier and you'll be able to find your bike in the crowd. |
