Dirt bike question? |
I was think of getting the Honda CRF150F How much does the gas last for (time) and can I use it in the street without it damaging the tires or skidding due to no traction since it's meant for off-road. (a forrest preserve is 2 neighborhood blocks from my house. How do I get off the bike? I'm use to a reg. bike where I lift my leg up like a dog peeing, than swing it around the back of the bike. But this dirt bike actually gets taller at the tail. a CRF150 has a stock seat height of 32.5 inches, so you must be relatively short in stature... but yeah, the general idea is to be standing on the left side of the bike, grasp the handle bars, standing on your left leg, swing your right leg over the top of the seat to the right side foot peg... likewise, a CRF150 holds 2.2 gallons of gas and should run the bike for around 40 ground miles give or take, which could translate into 3-6 hours depending on how hard & fast you are riding. the tires will do fine on the pavement with very little wear unless you are really ripping it, hard braking (chews knobs off) but if only a couple of blocks, you might be advised to push the bike to the riding area so as not to draw attention to yourself by the neighbors that might call the cops on you. if there is an easement along the road, you might can ride slowly there to keep off the pavement since a dirt bike is not legal on the streets. ride responsible and always wear a helmet. These bikes are extremely good on gas. I bet you could ride all day on a tank of gas. If you must ride it on the road, which is probably illegal, take it easy and you won't cause too much tire damage. I can't recommend riding your bike to the forest reserve if it is illegal, as that is how riding areas get shut down. Since it isn't that far, have you considered pushing the bike to the trail head? Gas- good day of riding. This all depends on heat, how much throttle your using during the day, and how well maintained the bike is. Also most guys keep gas in the truck they brought the bike in. Since you are only 2 blocks away you might get away with it but it is illegal(in most areas) to ride a dirt bike on the street, however you can ride in the far shoulder and most cops won't give you a hard time. As to getting on and off, remember when you where a little kid and you got your first 10 speed mountain bike. Remember how you got on that the first time? Pretty close to that. Walk up to the bike you will figure it out. (do what's comfortable) If you have to lean it over to get on it do it. Just make sure you can pick it up if you drop it. |
