My son is 16 yrs old and has been riding on d-bikes and atv's on and off for the past six years. He now has a 1985 125 KTM great bike though it is older and is in need of TLC all the time parts are hard to come by. He was offerd a great deal on a Suzuki 650S on off road.
Some say this is to big, heavy with to much speed, that he is not experienced enough - I am torn? He is about 160 lbs 5 "11"
That's allot of bike and at his weight trying to muscle that around is asking for disaster I ride a 125cc (I'm 230lbs) and way prefer is because its easy to chuck around I'm thinking that's more what hes into anyways and the 650 is not the bike for that. My thought on the whole thing is he should do what I did at his age, bust his *** to make some extra money and get what he wants, ultimately he will have allot more respect for it and in the long run he will thank you for making him do it, I know I did my mom refused to buy one or pay for the repairs so I busted my *** working at any construction site that would let me (yes digging goon spooning) and learned how do do my own repairs...hope this helped. are you on drugs going from a 125 to a 650 would be like going from a honda to a corvette if you dont want your son to get killed stay with the 125 it has plenty of power for his age
