What's a good bike to get? Harley is cool but expensive.? |
My lady and I are looking at a motorcycle to ride on weekends and road trips. Any suggestions? Cost is a factor of course, but we want a good bike for our money and low maintenance of course. Something reliable and comfortable. if u have ur license for at least a year and if u are close to a dealer that rents, rent a harley. i dont know of any metric dealer that rents the current model year bikes. those with a permit isnt eligible. both of u will need a helmet. i would get at the very least, a road king. they'll be around $95 a day for the weekend rate. depends on dealer. if the old lady isnt more than 180, u could go as 'small' as a dyna wide glide, or deuce. today's harley's are very reliable, and each bike is givin a thorough check over before it will be allowed to leave the shop. u pay by credit card. you cant have a d.l. and rent a harley ? do what (above) Royal Enfield My husband owned a Triumph (just a normal one) before he bought his Harley and that thing never got worked on much and just kept going and going his mate had what was called a (special) Triumph and had nothing but problems with it. Good luck and safe riding. well if you are not particular about brand or size the first thing i would look for is one that can pull your weight and your partners weight with energy to spar. for roading i would personally say nothing less than 750cc so that puts you in a set area of review next ease of care for low manitenance shaft drive, if you are simply a weekender and want to cruise once in awhile. i take it you are not looking to make sure you get money back out of the bike if you sell it, right? well honda or kawasaki, the yamaha is also nice. v-star heavy cruisers are nice but can you handle a full weight bike easily? mean streak and vulcans are good running bikes, in fact the older 750 vulcan makes a very good running fast bike once worked on but it takes some work, very agile, quick, water cooled shaft drive twin ohc engine. once worked with the bike can turn even magna heads in running and shock the socks off other bikes, i know i built mine and it ran with alot bigger sport bikes even though mine was cruiser set. so it cruised with 1000cbrs and ninjas, and ran almost as hot also, cams and carbs, exhaust. so it now depends on taste right, so triumph has some very nice bikes also, if im not harley im triumph anyway so it is to the personal taste as to where it goes. i expect the 750 vulcan can be picked up cheap now adays, and then reworked for a personal crotch rocket, so there is a route, the older triumphs get expensive as the valve guides wore and caused the bike to start smoking first sign of head work coming if not taken care of then it effects the cylinders, but they were very fast mind bending bikes, and triumph held the land speed record itself for awhile in the 60's so it is nothing to turn your chin up to either. im running a built dyno superglide, it is nice and easy going and all that and it was expensive but if i sell i will get a return of money back instead of simply getting it out of my sight, as others usually do reselling there bikes. i sold my vulcan 750 to an officer, he was shocked how fast it ran, and as the world found out wasnt ready to handle it either, he cut a telephone almost in half, and was buried shortly afterwards. so it amounts to you ability knowledge and taste, and go looking with set ideas for the bike ok? Check out the other 100yr old motorcycle company. Triumphs have a soul. They no longer have Lucas electrics or Amal carbs and are very reliable. My '98 Speed Triple has broken down once, an electrical relay had fritzed. My girlfriends '05 Bonneville has had no problems. |
