How to 'disengage' my foot from Clipless Road Pedal? |
I am new to clipless Road Pedal. Yesterday I have installed my new Forte CR150 clipless road pedal and installed the cleats (LOOK type) in my shoe. My major problem is to disengage my feet from the pedal. I fall so many times that my body full of cuts and bruises. I have turned the pedal鈥檚 spring load adjuster to the (-) direction to release the tension as much as possible (just enough to hold the adjustment plate from falling out). If I turn my heel towards the bike I can release my feet but it I try to twist away from the bike(as the pedal instruction says), it takes too must force or 6 out of 10 times I am unable to disengage and causing serious fall for me. Please help. Keep your feet flat on the pedal and rotate your foot to the outside, as if you are rubbing out an insect on the pavement. Trying to "lift" your foot out will not work, they are designed to lock you in and keep you from doing that while pedaling. Yeah, sometimes it works better to twist inward, which can be a problem depending if the frame is in the way. Some pedals / shoes let you adjust the side-to-side amount of play; it might be better to tighten that so that it unclips with less sideward movement. Also, some cleats (shoes) let you adjust the side to side angle / direction of the cleat, so you could try moving that so that it unclips easier. Just be careful there b/c if your foot is pedaling at an odd angle it can really mess up your knee. Failing all else, take it to a bike shop and pay for a proper fitting / alignment, it's worth it. Good luck Scott Try taking them back to the shop for credit against a different pair - out of all the ones I have owned (SPD, forte, Time atac, look, look keo) the forte's were by far and away the worst. Difficult to engage and disengage. |
