Which specialized bike to get?

some dirt road or walking trail riding

*want it to be lightweight as possible

going to use to cycle to campus around town, up and down hills and for fitness riding.

I already have a Specialized Hardrock Sport (older ~ 12 yrs)

Which specialized bike would be best???

I really want to buy specialized

thanks guys

I say get a cyclocross bike. They are basically beefy road bikes. They come with knobby tires, not quite as wide as mountain bike tires. You can take them off road, but you can't get quite as crazy as you can with a mountain bike. They are more comfortable than regular road bikes, but still quite fast.

Specialized makes one called the Tricross, and it starts at $1100. Source(s): http://www.specialized.com/bc/sbcbkmodel...
You basically need to decide between a mountain bike, fitness bike, or hybrid. All have their advantages. If you feel that you will be riding on trails and offroad, a mountain bike is the only way to go. If you want to ride this bike on the road more often, you can add slicker tires that roll better on pavement. A fitness bike is kind of like a road bike with slightly wider tires and straight bars. The specialized Sirrus series are like these. They are great for riding on pavement and commuting, but are not good offoad. Hybrids are very relaxed and are meant for cruising. Specialized website have a great breakdown of each type.
I agree with the post above by Jay P
but Specialized also has a great new communter series bike called the Globe, and the City is amazing
it is pretty durable and could go where you need it to go, but I would not do any major mountain biking with it

You could also upgrade the components and fork on your Hardrock sport, for riding serious off road

Go to a bike shop and test drive the bikes. It doesn't sound like you're a hardcore rider so an entry level bike will work. Once you settle on a model, check Craigslist and pick up a used one.

One issue is that you're biking to a campus so you have to worry about parts getting stolen. Replace the seat quick release with a fixed bolt. Make sure the chain goes through both tires.

Lightweight....why? The more it weighs, the harder you work & the more calories you burn....which reduces your own body weight. The lighter the bike, the more it costs. Unless you're racing or doing extended uphill climbs, the weight won't matter much.
