Is this bike suitable for hills? |
I think I have almost decided on my bike choice. I am looking at the Giant Suede. I like this one because it is very comfortable. There are many aspects of the designof this bike which I think make it more likely that I will be successful wiht my cycling plans. I plan to ride in the neighbourhood with the family and on paved trails nearby. I might also start cycling to and from work (2 km each way). The roads around here rise and fall but it will generally be uphill from work. I am told the area might be considered hilly as far as cycling goes. Is the Giant Suede suitable for this? It is a 7 speed bike. Hills are relative. A large hill to me might be a small hill to you, or vice versa. That being said.... The model you are looking for is the Giant Suede Satin with 48 teeth in front... http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bike... I think you should strongly consider spending the additional $20 for the Giant Suede DX because it is 24 speeds, and has 3 gears in the front instead of 1. The smallest ring up front has 28 teeth, which is much better for climbing than the 48 teeth on the other bike. If this is not an option then you should request a test ride where you can take the bike on the hill you plan on riding. I think there's a strong possibility that 7 gears is not enough if you are concerned enough to ask the question. Why spend so much money on a Giant? Buy a good used bike at a garage sale. And you do not need 24 speeds. 12 to 18 is enough for your needs i go with andrew w. an extra 20 for the availability to take it easy on a bad day or hard winds is nice. if you feel sick or something just drop the gear. i love having more then one chainring in the front just incase i need a rest from dropping people on the hills =] |
