What bike should i buy?

i will shortly be (hopefully) passed my test on a 600cc. Bike . However i am unsure what bike to buy. I will be using it to commute to work round trip 32 miles with at least one leg in the dark . the roads a true mix, country lanes, motorway and then liverpool city center. I will be riding in all weathers and will get the relevent gear, But what would you suggest as a first bike

Here in PA they offer free motorcycle safety course and provide motorcycles for the course, They are 250's and most of them are Honda Shadows. These are good training cycles and are not very expensive. They start out teaching you the trip precheck through to avoiding hazzards on the road. We had 5 people in our class who have never driven a motorcycle, one of which never even been on a motorcycle before. Everybody passed the four day class and received their license. Try a smaller bike and work your way up until you become more experienced. However, if this will be your first bike buy used and pay cash, get the experience of riding before moving up to bigger and more expensive bikes. I have had friends who bought big bikes like Goldwings and rode only a few times then selling them at a loss because they weren't ready for a big bike. Nothing wrong with starting small and working up to bigger later on. In fact the smaller bike will normally sell quicker when you are ready to move up, then use the money for your next bike. Which ever bike you choose, stay away from sportbikes unless you don't mind paying 10-20 times more for insurance. Insurance companies consider these high risk and will charge you alot for coverage.
r6 you will soon get used to it
A Honda or Suzuki 600cc SCOOTER. Easier to ride, more comfy, more features and NO SHIFTING
A honda vfr 800, I had one for my first bike and used it for the same purposes as yourself. They are reliable, nippy and handle great. Also comfy for pillions and riders alike. Avoid the newer vtec versions and go for a 2000 ish model. They really are great bikes. If you get a 600 (fazer or similar) you may soon get bored of it.
Yamaha Fazer, Honda hornet or Suzuki Bandits are excellent for newbies and will do your trip with ease.
Well I myself have NEVER been a fan of small cc bikes, you buy one of them and not long you'll wish you had bought a larger cc motorcycle, and then you lose some big bucks.

800cc+ Cruiser is a nice ride, you will be comfortable all day and enjoy your ride much more.

My wife owns and rides an 800 Kawasaki Vulcan and my first Vulcan was a 1500 classic, now it's a new 2000 and we love'em!
Rider for 27 years.
