Are bianchi bikes cheaper In Italy than the states.? |
I am looking at purchasing a bianchi road bike. Since I'm gonna be in Europe this year, I was wondering if these bikes are less expensive in Italy than the states. The bianchis that are actually made in italy may be cheaper, but I wouldn't count on it being so much cheaper that it's worth it to buy one over there, ship it back to the US, and pay US import duties. It wouldn't hurt to look around though. Most bianchis are made in taiwan for the US market these days. These bikes will definitely _not_ be cheaper, for the reasons above plus what the other guy said about the VAT. If I were going to italy, I'd be in the market for some old classic from colnago, masi, ciocc, or bianchi. I would think so... no shipping charges. In generally everything in Italy is more expensive. They have a value added tax (VAT) that makes items very expensive. I believe it's 17.5% but don't quote me on that. I believe a Bianchi might be cheaper in the US. In some countries you can get the VAT refunded to you when you take the item out of the country but I'm not sure if that is true of Italy and how hard it might be to do. I don't know about Italy, but I met a man from Honduras who had purchased his Bianchi in Honduras, and he paid considerably less than the bike would cost in the US. That is the result of trade and tariff negotiations between Italy and Honduras. That discussion never made the news in the USA. |
