Kawasaki Ninja 650R for a beginner?

I posted a question a few days ago asking about a Ducati Monster 695 for my first road bike. As previously stated, I have experience on 250cc dirtbikes but this will be my first road bike. I'm still seriously considering the Ducati, even though it may be a bit small for me, I'm 6'1" 170lbs. I was told by certain people who responded to my question that the Suzuki SV650 would also be a good choice however I don't really like the look of that particular bike. I like the looks of the Ninja 650R and it's well priced. I was at first worried that it may be too much power but the Ninja is actually 70HP and 48lbs of torque compared to 79Hp and over 50lbs of torque for the SV-650. This leads me to believe that the Ninja would be easier for me to get used to. I WILL be taking the MSF course before I even consider buying a bike and I'm not out to show off or impress anyone. I just want a bike to have a little fun on the weekends with. Thanks for the help, sorry for beating this topic to death!

With the dirt bike experience you have, and after having completed the MSF class, I would think the Ninja 650R would be a fine choice.

I ride a XZ-6R and find it fully adequate for my riding needs. It has plenty of pep for passing and such. It handles well. It is attractive (to me anyway).

I don't stunt or take extensive touring rides. But I really enjoy the lightness and responsiveness of my bike. So you should do well I would think with the 650R.
go to http://www.ninja650.com/ to cheak it out, they have a detailed entry about it. I think that it looks really cool.
Hey - if you like the bike, and it fits you, why not. However, I am 6' myself, and I think the 650 would be small for me. My first street bike was 1100cc.
I would go with a cheap, used bike that I am not afraid to drop, because that's going to happen as a beginner.
After you get some skill, and a bit more $$$ then get a more expensive bike, and one you really like.
If you're somewhat of a beginner and will only ride on the weekends, then at least consider a 500cc bike. They still got a little bit of a kick. If not then make sure the 650R doesn't weigh too much. Nothing over 415 lbs.
For someone with good dirt bike experience, I'd say it should not be troublesome. It's not for every first timer, but if you've mastered the basics of how the controls work already on a dirt bike I'd expect it to be fine.
