Buying a Motorbike. Should I buy from a dealer or private?? pls list pros and cons for both.? |
I don't know whether it makes a difference but i'm looking for anything from a 250cc to 600cc road bike, more likely than not a supersport bike from any of the top 4 manufacturers. this will be my first road bike, i have had a dirt bike before (although this was around 4 yrs ago) so i shouldn't be so much of a danger to myself or others on (or near) the road. Dealer pros: If you have a problem with the bike, you can take it back. Most dealers are liable for taking care of any problems for a specific time, like 30 days, 90 days, or the warranty period. they are usually the experts. Except on a bike that was traded in that is not their specific brand. Dealer cons: The cost is probably going to be the highest legal cost. Private Pros: You'll be able to pay less for a bike than you can get for it from the dealer. You'll be able to get the bike as is, with all of the extras that you would normally have to pay for from the dealer. Private cons: buyer beware. He may tell you that it was never wrecked, dropped, and is in perfect condition, but as soon as you pay him/her, it is yours, with all of the problems it has with it. No returns, no give backs, you bought it, you live with it. Best of both worlds: Buy from a private seller, but before you buy it take it to a dealer of that brand, and have them go over it for possible problems. It might cost you $50-100, but it's worth it to find out, before you pay for it. If a seller says, "no" you can't, then you know, to walk away, there is something wrong with it. Get a shaft driven, water cooled bike.Private owner, someone over 25.A low maintenence bike like that should be in decent shape |
