Clicking noise coming from crank? |
When I am out of my saddle and/or riding hard I keep hearing a clicking sound. I have a trek 2120 road bike and it's only when I try to push it in a higher gear, otherwise the bike is smooth and silent. Anything I could fix myself, or it this a bike shop problem? Almost certainly the bottom bracket retainer needs to be tightened. Its shifting a little inside the frame. Usually this happens on a new bike. Once you get it tight, it stays forever. There are a couple of special tools involved. Source(s): http://www.performancebike.com/shop/prof... http://www.performancebike.com/shop/prof... consult the dealer from where you bought the bike or consult the local repairing shop . They wil give you better idea than simply imagine your bike position and tell. all the best make sure not to cross the chain with a high gear in front and highest gear in back or lowest gear in back an lowest gear in front, it could brake the chain I had a similar problem. I had to have the bottom bracket tightened up. After that the assembly made no noise for a while, but then later made noise after it loosened up again. This happened a few times and then i replaced the bb completely. The old one was a tapered assembly and I replaced it with splined assembly. After that, no problems. Bottom brackets require special tools. If you don't have them, it may be best to just go to your local bike shop and have them take a look. |
