Mongoose Blackcomb or Mongoose XR250? |
I'm 13 right now and I know I am tall enough for these bikes. I am wanted the best bike for road bike trials, offroad trails, a bit intense riding not like the pros though, a few light tricks and small jumps. Reviews of the Mongoose XR250: http://www.dirtworld.com/productreviews/... It seems to have even more issues than the Blackcomb, judging from the comments.. That super bouncy rear suspension is going to make riding that bike on pavement or going uphill a chore. That's going to be true of pretty much any full-suspension bike from Walmart. If you absolutely must buy from Walmart, this one is probably the most palatable out of a field of cripples: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d... . It's a few pounds lighter, and it's a hardtail so it's a lot easier to pedal uphill and on pavement (no power-robbing bouncing). mongoose xr250 Neither of these bikes is intended for ANY off road riding. When they mention "light trails" they mean smooth rail-trail type. They say it right on a sticker on the frame and also in the owners manual. Instead, go to a local bike shop with the same amount of money, plunk it down, and get the best bike you can. It won't be as fancy as the ones you see at WalMart, but they WILL be stronger and better equipped. 27 years in the industry I have the Blackcomb, and a $25 rear shock with rebound adjust took care of the bobbing. The Blackcomb has front AND rear discs, which stop better than traditional V brakes (dry and wet conditions). Yes, you can buy a bike from your local shop, and get less dirty looks from the people at the trails. The Blackcomb also has better components than the XR250, so you won't need to upgrade sooner. And the person who said the Blackcomb is not for off road is dead wrong. There's nothing on it that says it's not for off road. |
