Injuries.......? |
I am about 5'9'' to 5'8'' and i have a kinda short road bike, and i am having back problems do i need a taller bike? If your 5'9" you should be riding a 54 to 56 cm road bike. You should go to a good bike shop and be fitted. As far as your back having problems that may or may not be from the bike. There are alot of variables in riding and doing it so that it's not painful. Check too see that you have no roll in the hips when pedaling, if so then your seat is most likely to high, also as funny as it sounds, clipless pedals will help. Distance from the seat to the handlebars if not correct can also contribute to back, shoulder and wrist pain. The list goes on and on, that's why anyone who's going to ride needs the right size bike and to be fitted to that bike. It can be the difference in having a pleasurable ride or a painful ride.Yes, it does seem as though you should get yourself a bigger bike. I'd suppose that your posture is horrible while you're riding that old thing! Do yourself a favor and treat your body to a new bike! i guess its best you get a bigger bike...i mean it really sucks when you have to slouch and ride your bike.... it would be more comfortable and more enjoyable if you got a bigger bike yes "Kinda short" does'nt tell us anything ! And your height isn't important. Your inseam is. Stand over the top tube. Should be about 1 inch clearence. If not, get another bike. And NOT at Walmart ! Sounds like you need to be professionally fitted here in Vancouver b.c. a place called campioni cycles does it I'm sure there's a shop in your hometown that could help you out. Here's a quick test for you when your sitting on your bike with your hands on the handlebars can you see the front hub of your bike? if you can its not a good fit the bar should obscure the view of the hub (this only applies to road bikes) this is just a quick test I would definitely recommend being properly fitted. There is no way to answer your question without alot more info (especially for road) there are alot of factors in fitting someone accurately on a road bike |
