I need a new set of STI shifters.? |
I have a Giant road bike with a front triple chain gear set and a rear 8 gear set. Will the Shimano Ultegra 9 speed STI dual shifters, like the 6600 or 6603, work for my setup or do I also have to change to rear gear set to a 9? The shimano Ultegra 9 speed ST 6510 will do both a double and a triple chain ring (The 105 nine speed ST 5510 also). The ST 6600 is designed as a ten speed double and the ST 6603 as a ten speed triple. The front shifter will work on a nine or eight speed. The indexing for eight, nine and ten speed (rear) is different So you will have to pop on the right cassette to get it to work. If you put on a new cassette, change your chain and check the condition of your chain rings. If you don't you will just accelerate the wear of the new gears. Your sora derailleurs will work with the Ultegra shifters. Generally if your experiencing trouble changing gear it may be the derailleur not the shifter giving you trouble. Maybe upgrading or servicing your derailleurs will fix the problem. no, 8 speed Thumb Shifter will work and maybe you should also check with your bike shop (Where you from @ this time?) |
