Cycling Clubs - When am I ready?

I have just got myself a road bike and am commuting to work each morning. I am looking to join a cycling club early next year but don't know what level I need to get to to keep up! How fast do rides normally go and how long are they? I am in West Yorkshire if that is of use.

Thanks

Most clubs will split the group into smaller groups based on ability level. My local club has an "A" group which averages over 20 mph, the "B" group which will average 18 - 20 mph, the "C" group which will average 16 - 18 mph and the "D" group wich is 15 mph or less. Most rides last anywhere from an hour to 3 hours depending on what time of the year it is and whether or not there is an event coming up the following weekend. I suggest looking for some clubs on line, see when there group rides are, show up at a few different ones and see which one you like the best. Or just keep mixing it up, that's fun too.
Good clubs have multiple ability levels. The only real way to know if your ability levels match the club is to ask the club.
Don't wait to join a club! Ask your local bike shops for an appropriate group for your abilities.

Ride on!
