What kind of tires would you recommend for commuting in a rural setting? |
My commute is about 18 miles one way. I used to use Specialized Armadillo's and I really liked them so I'm looking for something comparable. I'm riding a road bike. Continental ultragator or gator skin wouldn't be a bad choice. Not as puncture resistant as the Armadillo but the handling is far better. Hutchinson has a kevlar belted tire and some of the Vittoria tires are good. For a high mileage tire, the Armadillo is gonna be hard to beat. I had a customer put 3,400 miles on one set and 4,000 on the second with no flats. He literally wore the rubber down to the cords in places and that's why he had to replace them. hmmmm,you wud know before me sorry As long as you are riding on roads, even in a rural setting, I would go with a Kevlar lined road tire. I have had good luck with a Michelin Erilium tire. The tire has great durability and puncture resistance. Not great for rolling resistance but a solid, dependable tire. I put over 1,000 miles on this tire and never had a flat/puncture. Good Luck! Kenda actually makes a Tomac....A decent tire with stick E rubber and Kevlar i think they are about 32 bucks each. They lean more towards Mountain biking but are a good tire. Vittoria makes an Open coursa Evo Cx with corespun K>> Corespun K" casing, which are made with 50% of Kevlar wires for better cut resistance and strength, and "Corespun T" Casing, made with special wires to lower the weight. 290 tpi w/ Kevlar reinforcement. One of the best clincher road racing tires on the market i think these are like 55 bucks each and up |
