Adjusting front derailleur? |
I have a road bike and my chain rubs against the front derailleur. Just wondering would the first step be to adjust the high and low screws and if that doesn't work then would I have to loosen the bolt and tighten the cable?? http://www.sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adj... go for it It depends what side is rubbing and if there is slack in the cable. Chances are you are going to need to release the cable, adjust the limit screws and reattach the cable with the proper tension. P Many road bikes have an additional index on the gear shift mechanism; when you are on either of the two smaller chainrings (the front gear) you give it an additional little push and should hear a click. This works only if there's a very light, but still irritating chain rub sound. That's one possibility. The other possible cause of the chain rub is if you are riding in the "bad gears". Riding in the biggest front gear, and the easiest rear or vice-versa will guarantee cause chain rub, and could damage your chain (over-stretching it). But, you probably know this already, and that's not the problem you're having, so you probably need to adjust the mech.: Here's a video showing the adjustment of the front derailleur: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7kkqy0ok... Here's one for the rear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skzvfcaib... Hope this helps! Yup, you have to loose the bolt and tighten the cable but make sure it is in the lowest point |
