How long does it take for my Colar Bone to heal? |
I am male 60 years old broke my colar bone on road bike accident and after almost 3 months there is little to no sign of healing .............my worry is I am booked and paid to walk the Milford Track NZ and carry my pack............I am fit and healthy Where on the clavical did the fracture occur? While fractures of the middle third are most common, non-union is rare, but surgical fixation is usually successful. Non-union of the end of the clavical is quite common because of the weight of the arm. However, most non-union distal clavical factures are pain-free and only a very small percentage require surgery or any further intervention. Source(s): I am a PT Wheeless' Textbook for Orthopedics Clavicular fracture non-union surgical outcome and complications. Injury. 2002; 33(2):135-43 Because of your age I would say about 6 months , Check in with your doctor .. You might need to take some Calcium pills.. To boost Healing For a healthy 40 year old man (myself) it took 12 weeks to heal, for an older gent such as yourself it could take a lot longer. They say it can take quite a long time for the elderly bones to heal, you just need to be careful not to use it too much, it will slow your healing process. The clavicle is one of the worst bones to break because there is nothing around it to support it during the healing process. I know, I've broken both of mine a number of times. Six weeks is normal for an adult 3 wks for children. Put your pack around your waist. If you are in alot of pain something else has happened get it checked out befor adding the stress of excercise. trust me my friend broke his collar bone and no offense but it takes quite a while for that bone to heal. just do as your doctor says and eveen though you dont think its healing it really is.....your body heals fromt eh inside out so right nwo its is most likey trying to grow back and build up the bone. let it take its time you dont want furthere complications. get well. It should have healed in six to eight weeks. Obviously, you have something going on with the healing process. Have you been wearing the brace faithfuly? Failure to wear it as the doctor prescribed will hinder the healing process. Your age may also be a factor as to why it has not healed. Have you spoken with the doctor about it? Has he ran a test for osterporosis or bone density? If not, I would ask him if he would. |
