Push bikes on roads!?

do you think people who use push bikes on roads should have insurance?? as if they crash into your car are they gonna fork out the repair costs??? what about a form of raod tax as they dont pay anything for bike lanes etc. what you all think!

Many bicyclists today have their bicycles insured. I have had my bicycles insured since 1986.
Very little has been said about insuring bicycles, and I'm glad you brought the subject up. We need to get the word out to let people know that Insurance Companies now accept bicycles to be added to existing insurance policies.
My bicycles are insured through my automobile insurance policy.
Those who do not have automobiles can add their bicycles to their homeowners, or renter's insurance.

The insurance companies like it when bicycles are on an insurance policy, because when accidents happen, both parties must show insurance information. Insurance claim investigators can do a better job than the Police, because they specialize in accident investigations.
Also, while the insurance company's people are investigating, they look up the motorists policy number in the computer. Then the computer prints out a list of all the accidents which that motorist has been involved in.
Did you know that 1% of motorists are involved in over 60% of the accidents? The insurance companies keep track of the statistics, and when they find out that some motorists are a lot more "accident prone" than most people, the insurance rate goes up for those drivers.

As for Road Tax, most bicyclists in America have cars, so they already pay the road tax.
i don't think they should pay road tax but i do think in this day and age they should have insurance
If you have been hit by a cyclist, ask them if their bike is insured for theft, or covered on a household policy.
If they say yes, then they have public liability insurance of a 拢1million.
This covers you even if it is a child who damages your car. Their parents are responsible.
Ask the Police to get involved if the persons involved start being awkward.
Another good question to ask, is do they drive a car?. If yes, they can be prosecuted. Did they jump a red light?. Are they drunk? Did they run you down on a pedestrian crossing?.
Just because they are a cyclist does not mean they are immune from the responsibilities of the road or the Highway Code.
the above is exelent, how ever i ask you this when a cylist hits a car what preceeded the collision that may have been contributory to the incident. so many times i have been in close calls because i was not given the propper ettiquette by drivers while cycling. i am an insured cyclist who commutes daily on bike.if i am in the lane traveling at the speed of traffic that is my lane, no different than if i were on a motor cycle. attempting to intimidate or force me over or negligently cutting me off or passing is no different. if these actions cause a collision it is probably not the cyclist fault.

weather the rock hits the vase or the vase hits the rock its going to be pretty hard on the vase. are you telling me that you would sue the cyclist that you just injured for the scratches in your car because you were too busy to look over your sholder or intoo much of a hurry to allow the cyclist to move over when safe?
what's a push bike? the only people I see pushing bikes are homeless people with stacks of cans and bottles on their bikes
Hmm...

Most cyclists I know don't generally tend to cycle into cars - it's usually the other way around.

My bike is insured, but as a rider I am not so I guess I'd best make sure I avoid your car! I accept that some cyclists are rude and ignorant, but so are some car drivers and in my experience it's the car drivers that are the problem. I was run off the road this year by some daft woman who then drove off, which resulted in several hospital visits and days off work. Why should I have to pay a tax for cycle lanes that keep me safe from idiots like her?

Also, as bike lanes have recently been touted as a way of easing congestion and cutting down on pollution I think it would be a little unfair to impose a tax on those using them.

I'd be more concerned with people who cycle on footpaths myself, but there you are.
It is like asking. Cars on roads!?

Yes, the roads belong as much to the cyclist as to the motorist.

No on taxes for cyclist. They reduce the Co2 for everybody, make traffic lighter, specially for motorist, use up much less road space and parking space, the road ware cause by them is minimal. On the contrary, some deduction should be made to frecuent commuters to promote cycling and less motoring.

Insurance:
A good issue.
It would be a good idea to be insured in case of accident.
Manly because it is the cyclist who gets the worst scratches while the car gets those terrible broken bones, cuts, internal trauma, etc. (hope the irony is celar).
And, the car driver can always drive away if needed leaving the cyclist laying on the road.

Burglary insurance is a personal issue.

What everybody should do is obey the law, regardless of what vehicle you use on the road. Politeness would be a nice asset to have from every road user too!
