Can I change the registration on a road tax disc? |
I have just bought a bike which I taxed but which has some serious problems and therefore is going back to the shop from whence it came. I have my eye on another bike. Can I change my existing tax disc or do I need to apply for a refund for this one and then tax the new bike? You'll have to apply to the DVLA for a refund on any full months remaining on the current tax disc and get a fresh one on the new bike (unless of course it still has time remaining on its disc.) You will have to call DVLA and arrange a refund on unused time-Then get a New Tax certificate for your new machine. you will have to get a refund on your present tax disc then apply for a new one on your new bike. you`ll need to get a refund on this one and then get a new one for the new bike they are not transferable hi you have answered your own question mate. yes you will have to contact DLVA for a refund and tax your new bike separately, you could ask the dealer to do this as a good will gesture given the problems you have had ...just a thought I presume that you knew about cashing the old one in and were asking for a more "economical" way of doing it. If you taxed it in a small post office where they write the registration on the disc by hand in ink you could soak the disc in brake fluid which should remove the ink, then write in the registration of your choice. Obviously this doesn't change computerised records but to a passing copper of traffic warden it will look as if its taxed........... Bloke down the pub said so. |
