Sisters, has feminism hit a bump in the road? |
It seems like nobody is into the movement at the moment. Is it because of the political climate these days or do people have other worries due to the economic conditions? I think we should rev up the movement by re-writing the distorted "history" to the more appropriate "herstory." Along our path to liberation, we will take inspiration from the writings of Sappho and enjoy daily softball tournaments complete with trophies and a keg of beer. I am even willing to give bike rides on my Harley, since I am a proud member of Dykes on Bikes. Sounds like fun to you, sisters? I don't think feminism has died entirely, but I do believe it has become seriously damaged. The vast majority of female figures in the media are terribly dumb (Paris Hilton), partying so hard they will be dead at 30 (Lindsey Lohan), or barely dressed sex toys(music videos). Very few famous women in the current generation are worthy role models. I think that for the giant leap forward that the feminists of the 60's and 70' achieved, the sexism movement of the new millenium has sent us two giant steps back. Women are being objectified once again, and very few are willing to point this out. How long until we are again considered merely a man's property It's not all that dead. There are many feminist writers out there doing much. Just look for ways to get involved. Haha, START THE REVOLUTION!! Actually it's more like a giant pothole that it's still falling into. The sexual revolution that said women should be able to have sex with whomever and whenever they want, without fear of getting pregnant, completely backfired. All it accomplished was that it made it much easier for men to use women for sex, and did quite a bit of harm to women's bodies along the way. I think the term is it hit a huge pot hole in the road. How surprising that you are a lesbian. you know what!? some of us are SORRY about the whole movement, so if it's hit a bump in the road.. perhaps it is because we don't WANT all the crap the 'movement' has been forced upon us. I don't WANT to be 'liberated'. I love my life, so please leave me out of it. I have enough control without forced equality. I enjoy caring for my home and allowing my husband to make the bulk of our income. I work, but I like the fact I don't have to. It 'works' for me. Do what *you* want, but no more speaking for the sisters in general... I'm not the only woman who feels this way. |
