Do you have any emergency road tips that you'd like to share?

You're 50 miles from home and the bike goes down, you have to make it home, and you did... what was the problem and how did you fix it to get home? Let us know at www.geocities.com/wherestheral... and our 360.

Short answer: Carry a cell phone, a list of friends with trucks, a list of towing companies that know how to tow a bike, and towing insurance.

I have a big van and I've rescued many of my friends who had break downs, flat tires, crashes, etc. Many of my friends have vans or pickup trucks and I know I can call on them to come get me if I have a problem. Having good friends kicks ***.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were looking for. Out on my dirt bike one time I had the cheap plastic clutch lever snap off in my hand. Major PITA. I had to get a running start at red lights, jump on, and click it into first while it was rolling. I was able to blip the throttle to shift all the way home but at every red light I had to get it into neutral before stopping and then do the running start thing again. What a goofy night.
Always goood to have cell phone, Onstar, First Aid Kit, gallon of water, snack bars, Flash light.
I was at Lake Texoma on border of Texas and Oklahoma, and i lost 1st-3rd gear on my BMW R60/6. I made a few unsuccessful phone calls, and ended up somehow riding home in 4th and 5th gear. Just gotta feather the clutch.
I only ride Harleys...They don't break down
cell phone, a list of friends
In 1979 @ the age of 21 I read Robert Pirsig's 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance'. "An Inquiry into Values" Back then I owned a 2nd hand Yamaha 650 twin, a vibrating urban noise maker not intended for the highway. The book had little to do with turning wrenches as any one who's read it knows. Pirsig leaves the stifling safety cocoon of suburbia and took his chances while traveling the roads of America. For me I enjoy the solitude of being out in the open in the real environment of the season heading toward destinations unplanned. I travel with only the minimum. Appreciating the unknown is still part of the adventure. 29 years later I still ride with the minimum. Just a toothbrush and credit card.
