Where do I find someone to cycle with in my area?

I am an avid cyclist who just moved to a small town where nobody rides (road bikes). I miss my old group rides, anyone know if there's a web site to hook up with fellow cyclists, not to date or anything, just to ride?

Since you said you're an avid cyclist as myself, you're probably already know you can get this type of info from your LBS (local bike store).

I would also recommend you check out www.bikejournal.com. It's more than a website to log your miles. It's a great research site for finding clubs and organized rides throughout the globe, but predominantly in North America. Note, you'll have to become a member (which is free) to be able to view this information. Oh, btw, it also has a forum with some great people that are always willing to help out a fellow cyclist with whatever. It's a family friendly, on-line community.

HTH and good luck. Source(s): Personal experience and

I'm also a avid rider on the road, but like the big fat tire mountain bikes, i cant bend over like that anymore, i had back surgery, and am having a implant put in soon, bending over could pull the wires from my spine ( to much information), i always get a big long extension bar so i don't have to bend over, so i couldn't keep up with you guys, but its great fitness, they say better cardo than walking and jogging, I'm 52 now and i can say after all these years of biking, other than the injury I'm in good shape, I'm always dreaming about my next bike, right now i have my eye on a Gary fisher Zebrano ;) perfect for a bad back guy. Oh and when you come to a stop sign put your foot down, i didn't and had to take a class and got a 250 dollar fine gggggrrrr
Bob, if ya told us were you're at it'd help to answer.

I don't know of any gereral websites for this but know they are out there. Most are very incomplete though.
Some general tips since I don't know where you live:

Local bike store is your best source of information. Those guys ride and will know of groups or clubs. They usually have fliers for upcoming rides from other groups. Some bike stores sponsor their own group rides.

In your search engine type in the name of your closest city and "Bike Club", "Racing Club", etc. i.e.: Youngstown Bike Club. (Which is the Out-Spokn' Wheelmen). I'd be surprised if you didn't have a recreational, racing or touring club close to you.

Visit your local health club or YMCA. The local tri-club. works out at the YMCA and puts up posters. I called them and they didn't mind that I joined them on their group rides. Many bikers work out at the YMCA's spinning classes. Just look for the dudes with riding shorts and shoes - they usually ride.

Tell us where you live and you might get lucky!
Try a google search. I found my current group by typing in "Mountain Biking in Northants." Came up with a BBC link.

Worth a try.

Luck
