What's a good price for a reasonably good bike? |
Regular cycling, no need for off road etc I was able to get an entry level road bike for $600.00 from Fuji USA. (I love this bike and am now looking at getting an upgraded model.) But like the first answer the real question is how serious are you and what are you going to use this bike for. When I was overseas in a deployed location I rode a bike I piked up at the PX for $90.00. Not my first choice of rides, but it got me to the PX, the Chow hall ect... If I were going to help a friend get into road cycling I would tell them to spend the $600.00 for a model that I got. For commuting or rides around the block with the kids there are lower priced alternatives out there such as the Wal-Mart Huffy for about 200.00. There is a wide range of pricing, depending on how serious into riding you are. Most of the chain stores like Wal-Mart, Target and Dick's Sporting Goods have very few if any road bikes. They might have a few hybrids though. On Wal-Mart's web site I saw a traditional road bike with aluminum frame for about $150.00, which seems like a good deal, but it's still a Wal-Mart bike. I would stick with something from your local bike shop where the sales staff is more knowledgeable and you're going to get a better quality bike. It might cost a bit more, but the better bikes are worth it, plus, they will be there for service, tune-ups, etc. and any other bike supplies you might need. You could spend anywhere from $400 up to $2,000 or more for a good quality road bike. A touring style bike such as the Trek 520 will run about $1300. so you want a descent road bike, eh? the Trek 1000 retails for around $600 and it has dual control shifters and a bunch of other neat things. thats the absolute lowest i would go. anything cheaper is not safe and reliable. the pic in the link is an old bike. the one at my bike shop looks so sweet. if you really want to get into road stuff, then get clipless pedals to go along with the bike. it is definatley worth the money. http://www2.trekbikes.com/bikes/bike.php... Please go to a reputable bike shop, or two & try various styles & sizes of road bikes. The shop should fit you to the bike, as far as seat height & handlebar reach etc, & then let you test ride it. If the bike shop is not interested in bike fit, than politely leave, & find another shop that is. Fit is the difference between a comfortable bike & one that collects dust. The Trek 1000 -$710.00, Specialized Allez -$770.00, & Fuji Newest 2.0 -$710.00 |
