How do I teach my son to ride a bike without training wheels? |
He's six years old and, he's just having a hard time. We've done the running down the road and letting go, having him go down hill, etc. He seems to be able to be okay once he gets started but, he just can't get started without help. I'd like him to be able to learn before summer starts. Any suggestions would be appreceiated. Thanks. put the training wheels back on, but loosely so that they are two inches on either side from the ground. he'll get it. my brother had trouble too! its more comfortable for them to ride balanced with the comfort of the training wheels to catch them, than for you to run with them and make them afraid of falling. goodluck! Keep helping him He will pick it up. If he falls make him get up, use this time as a teachable moment. Thanks for taking the time to spend with your boy, that's awesome. He will learn when he is ready...I worked and worked with my son, he was actually scared of being on his own without the training wheels. He will catch on, and before you know it, he will be riding without them. Give him time. This is something new, and it takes time to adjust. Good luck. With my daughter i bent her training wheels way upwards. see with her it was a security thing...so if they were there she was cool...but when i took em off she wasnt...so i left them there but made them unable to help her....she rode awhile without using them at all and then i proved to her she didnt need em so we took em off....i used to hold the bike up and tell her to put both feet on teh pedals and push forward like she was tying to move then i let go of the bike...and away she went...good luck |
