Any body got a motorcycle/scooter for $1000 or less that goes at least 65mph, & is Road safe. I'm new @ this.

I'm a bargan hunter. And I need a bike of some sort to get around a big city and if you've got one please be honest about it's condition. Also I'm a begginer just now trying to get a license to drive (required by law in my state) one and and everyone needs hands on experience to learn to drive anything. If you see any sales any where also please let me know.

Kawasaki Ninja 250R is an excellent first-time motorcycle. It weighs only 300 pounds and gets 55-60 MPG. Unless you weigh 250 pounds, it should be able to 100 MPH +. But the only way you could get one for under $1k is if you get an older one. And older vehicles typically have many more problems. I purchased a 2002 Ninja 500R with 2k miles for $2900, and the only things I have had to do to it is basic maintenance (oil, tires, brakes, chain)
I can get basic insurance for $8 a month, and car insurance costs me $100 a month (but then again, I have a clean record)
Riding a motorcycle has literally saved me thousands of dollars over the last 3 years.
I would strongly recommend INVESTING in something a little newer. Lets say you get a 1990 Ninja 500 for $1000. Suddenly you have to put $1500 into it to get it running again. (dealers often times charge $90/hr for motorcycle work and they often times have to order dealer parts for you [not generic] and those can be really expensive! Try $3 for a screw! You can get one at your hardware store for 10 cents!)
Otherwise go to your gas station and look for 'Cycle Trader' (the little magazine that has motorcycles, ATVs, trailers) and get a good feel for what you can buy.
Otherwise try http://motors.listings.ebay.com/motorcyc...

Then scroll down and search for motorcycles that are within 50 miles of you. You can even search for motorcycles that are priced .01 to $1000! Source(s): http://motors.listings.ebay.com/motorcyc...
I can tell that you're a beginner at this. Don't try to buy a bike on Yahoo answers, you want to buy a scoot that you can see and test ride, and take to a mechanic before you buy it. Go down and get a local newspaper tomorrow (because there are more listing on Sunday) and find some local listings of people with bikes for sale IN YOUR AREA. Call them on the phone and go see some bikes. Have a mechanic check the bike out and tell you what's wrong with it before you purchase any bike. Don't set yourself up to get riped off.

For a 1000 you might find something in your area but you should not learn to ride in a big city. I used to ride in LA and now I ride on weekends only. For some reason car drivers are blind to bikes and you should get your skills built in a safe area away from heavy traffic then avoid traffic. Get a cheap car as a daily driver.

Be CAREFUL about Craigs list. You'll get a lot of spam and a lot of cons sent your way.
