Going to take out my 2002 yamaha r6 out this spring, what should i focus on to get it road ready? |
My yamaha r6 has been garaged and i'm getting ready to service it at a shop but i'm thinking of just oil and filter and tire pressure only. Should i change my antifreeze fluid also? What other things should i change that are a must? Is it bad that i left my battery on the bike. It's been below 15 this winter and it's currently dead now-is that really bad?-should it have been off the bike? battery might be toast if it didnt have a charge before it got froze. better inspect the battery, if it's cracked, its no good. anti-freeze should still be good. check air pressure, tread, chain tension/lube, coolant level, condition of air cleaner, and spark plug condition. its best to change the oil before storage, but if u wasnt able to, get the oil nice and hot, then change the oil and filter. oil should be hot so that all the contaminants will be in the oil instead of elsewhere. You may have killed your battery beyond the point of being able to recharge. Next year remove or hook up to a battery tender. Another important thing it sounds like you ignored is the gas. I hope you added stabalizer or drained. If not you should drain now. If the 02 still had carbs they are probably varnished if the fuel in the bowls was not stabalized or drained. spend 20 bucks on a trickle charger for your new battery the way they charge will actually condition your battery I have a 2001 zrx1200r with the original battery and a 03 rc51 with the orginal as well it might be time for a coolant change its 5 years old it wont hurt go to pro-blend.com they have some awsome coolant if your brake fluid is dirty swap it as well you can do all of this for under 100 but you batt. is gonna set you back another 50-75 |
