Road king with detachable fairing soild or loose? |
I was wondering about either getting a SG or a RK . I heard about people puting a detachable fairing on it so Iit can be some what two bikes. I would like the option of wind in the face with the choice of putting a detachable fairing on it, on longer rides. I know that HD makes touring bikes, but has anyone done this conversion? Is the detachable fairing soild or does it rattle and bothersome? About how much did it cost minus the multi colored paint, upgraded CD player, upgraded speakers and such? Is there extensive wiring that will need to to take place and be visable when the fairing is taken off? Also, with the fair on, am I limited on the types of bars that I can have installed? Curreently, I have 17" apes on mine and like the comfort of them. Thanks I think the road king comes with a detatchable windshield but i'm not certain. I do know that one is available for the road king. J&P cycles offers a detatchable fairing for the road king, a couple of different styles, I think. The fairing has its own mounting brackets and the wiring is pretty simple since you only need a hot and ground for the radio. It doesn't have the gauges like the factory touring models. Price runs from about 600.00 to 1400.00. Been thinking of installing one on my heritage softail If wind in your face is your primary concern, just go with the detachable windsheild. On my '03, that was a standard item. I now have a Road Glide, of course that fairing is factory permanent, but really it makes little difference when you talk about the wind. I get plenty of wind with the little mini screen installed. I remember looking at several aftermarket products for a detachable fairing, but in the end, I just didnt like the way any of them looked. Obviously, I decided that the factory does a better job and you get all the cool features that come with it. |
