How can you differentiate between motorcycles and other road users with a warning device?

If bikes were fitted with transponders or transmitters only bikes would be detected. Pilots manage in coming info in 3D, cars already have a range of warning devices, one which takes over the steering. I'm sure drivers could manage. Could aircraft system designers help solve the problem?

What your trying to do is very noble and a unique idea.

Like you said, this would only work if ALL bikes and ALL cars are retro fitted with the transponders and reciever devices. can you imagine how pissed off a car driver would get if he went to a motorcycle race meeting or gathering and his car kept stopping or veering off!.......a simple audable device is enough.
assuming you passed your test - theoretically, you should be a competant and responsible driver than doesn't spend all your driving time running over motorcyclists

although i accept that they can appear quickly out of nowhere - there's still no real excuse for not being alert to the dangers every time you get behind the wheel of a car

that said - motorcycle has radio transmitter and cars are equiped with audio alert of proximity - just to give advanced warning of one nearby
What does it matter what the other person on the road is driving?? It doesn't matter if it is a motorcycle or car, I still don't want to be merging into it!

Use safe driving practices! Check your mirros and blind spots before changing lanes or merging... it is that simple!
Not only is it the car's responsibility to watch out for other vehicles motorcycles included, but it is our job as a driver to stay out of another person's blind spot....this is especially true of motorcycles. I ride and am aware of bikes around me, but the other morning a cycle got in my blind spot and stayed there. I even looked over my shoulder for him twice and did not see him. If I had not seen him in my review well before, I could have changed lanes right on top of him.

Proximity alarms would probably just get ignored or shut off if cars did have them.
If a drivers head is up his asss, no number of gizmos is going to make anyone any safer. Ban cell phones. That would help. Make drivers responsible for their driving and any deaths they cause. That would help.
You have a good question that the Department of Transportation needs to evaluate before allowing drivers' use of distance sensors. Many driver's are becoming too reliant on technology and oblivious to common sense.
It already exists, is cheap, readily available, and easy to fit. It's called a loud exhaust.
