I'll be moving to Ottawa within the next year or so, and I was curious... I'm not big on owning a car. I'd like to buy a Honda Metropolitan, and use it during the Spring, Fall and summer, (I'll take public transportation when the weather doesn't permit me to ride the scooter.) What are the laws in Ottawa regarding owning a scooter? Are there many designated bike/scooter roads, or do we ride with traffic? Any information would be appreciated.
I would suggest that when you get to Ottawa, you go into their local Department of Motor Vehicles. Laws differ from place to place. A Scooter should be driven just like any other Motor vehicle, because it is considered to be a motorized vehicle. And, you should know the Traffic Laws. They are not meant to be riden on the sidewalks. If you are looking to purchase the bike before going to Ottawa, then you should go to their website and email them. Better safe than sorry.
