The bump is about 1 1/4 inches across and has been there for 12 days now. It was received from a fall off a bike onto a paved road by an almost 6 year old boy. There is no bruising to the bump for a while now, and the scrape has healed, but there is no change to the bump. I don't recall goose egg bumps lasting beyond a week and wonder if I should be concerned.
If the child has not been ill from the knot on head by now then he is probably okay. In the future, and he has another head injury and does not lose consciousness, then keep an eye on him for nausea and vomiting, sleepiness, and disorientation. If any of these signs show up then you should seek immediate medical attention.
A goose egg is a good sign. When there is no visible swelling, there may be internal swelling putting pressure on the brain.
The swelling may still go down but may turn into a calcium deposit. |
