Who was wrong? |
Today riding my bike from work-I went on the pavement as the road is always full of really fast buses-12 people have been killed there before. It was only for about 200m and a man started swearing badly at me. He thought that i should get runover instead of using the pavement and i was concerned abvout safety. What do you thjink? You're quite right to do what you did. As long as you didn't run into him which i'm sure you didn't, he has no reason for complaint. If he swore at you, this would suggest that he was a vulgarian as this is no way to conduct ones self in public. Ignore him next time, or even better, knock him flying. If it was on a main street you but other wise him Just as the cars etc are fast and dangerous to cyclists, cyclists are fast and dangerous to pedestrians. The difference is that you can hear a car coming but not a bike. Pedestrians are also likely to change direction quickly to go into a shop or turn a corner. Why didn't you get off and push? It is a FOOTpath after all. If you are in the UK then it`s not legal to ride a bike on the footpath. Unfortunately the man was right.., not to shout at you, but to tell you that are not allowed on a pavement. The only time you can legally ride on a pavement, is when it is a shared cycle path. I am a serving police officer and even I think that law is an @ss, because I fully agree with you that the roads are far more dangerous for cyclists but sadly, they are not enough cycle lanes. I doubt very much that you find a PO who would give you a ticket for riding on the pavement though. I would carry on using the pavements but show a lot of consideration for pedestrians etc. Good luck.. him!!!!! as a car driver i prefer cyclists to be on the path anyway.as long as the footpath wasnt full of pedestrians i really dont see the problem |
